Czorsztyn is a charming summer resort situated about 30 km away from Nowy Targ, by Lake Czorsztyn, opposite Niedzica. Before the Czorsztyn water reservoir was put up, the town buildings had been constructed downwards to the Dunajec River banks, while now, the inhabitants of the frequently flooded regions occupy areas well above the water level. The village’s most famous attraction is Castle Mountain and the ruins of a 14th-century castle, dating from the times of Casimir the Great. The ruins are properly secured and open to the public.
Moreover, Lake Czorsztyn is there, with ships and gondolas, facing the magnificent castle in Niedzica. Its reservoir was formed by damming the Dunajec River with an earth-concrete barrier.
